Giambattista Valli 2012 Spring Couture

What can I say about Giambattista Valli's Spring Couture collection other than "All of these dresses need to be hanging in my closet."? I'm slowly, but surely, becoming a serious lace fan. The mixing of it with the volume and sheerness, the knee length, it's all really working for me. I usually don't favour a high neckline, but the detailing makes it worth it. I love all the body shapes; I'm partial to a small waist and exaggerated hip. And the floor length gowns... with the head pieces and the epitome of statement necklaces, they were just surreal. The white one is my idea of a couture fairy tale wedding in some enchanted forest under a willow tree, complete with doves and water sprites sprinkling gold glitter dust... I'm getting carried away.

Christian Dior 2012 Spring Couture

So, the Spring Couture shows have started in Paris, but there were no invitations in my mailbox. That's so weird, right? Anyways, how beautiful was this show? It was very Dior and lady like. It was couture, but extremely wearable. The detail of the draped chiffon and organza topped with the embroidery... the touch of color provides so much depth to the pieces. It looks very soft and sweet. I love how seeing through to the skin does not take away from the dress, but gives it a hint of allure. There's a floor length black dress that needs to be worn on the red carpet. The collection was full of this sophisticated, sheer combo. How did they manage putting those two together without making it vulgar? It's like a magic trick and I'm smitten.
