Monique Lhuillier Spring / Summer 2014

On Day 3 of NYFW I entered the Theatre at Lincoln Center to view the MONIQUE LHUILLIER show with friends. We took our seats as the lights lowered and one by one the models began to emerge through a floral printed silk screen. Out came looks full of chiffon, Chantilly lace, and organza in bright hues balanced out with soft gold and nude tones. Even from my seat, it was easy to see the intricacies and details of the delicate fabrics as they floated down the runway. It was a Love affair in motion. I have to say that the Spring/Summer 2014 collection was just as romantic and elegant as you would expect from LHUILLIER.
I loved so many of the frocks, but my favorite, look number 23. An orchid silk linen gazar bandeau paired with a persimmon silk gazar draped ball skirt. It was strapless, vibrant, and you just had to see the way it moved... Show notes labeled this look "a new interpretation of traditional eveningwear". I thought it was perfect.

After the show, I was able to squeeze in a quick word with Lhuillier. I told her how much I loved the show and how beautiful I thought all the pieces were. In the few short words we shared amongst the chaos of backstage, it was easy to tell that Lhuillier is just as lovely as the clothes she designs.

Carmen Marc Valvo Spring / Summer 2014

New York Fashion Week is that time of year when the fashionable head to Lincoln Center to see and be seen, myself included. On the second day of NFYW I attended the CARMEN MARC VALVO show housed in the Stage. The internet has now made it possible for everyone to see runway shows almost instantly, with many even being live streamed, but there is something to be said about being in The Tents. In The Tents, you don't only get to view the shows, but you get to take in the atmosphere. The energy if you will... Excuse me, I think you're in my seat!
According to show notes, the 2014 Spring/Summer collection was "a cultural collision of traditional tribal patterns in a monochromatic palette". There were lots of horizontal lines and geometrical shapes. Most of the looks consisted of black and white with shades of gray and just a hint of pink. While the dipped dyed bob wearing models did the walk to Bananarama's Cruel Summer, I couldn't help but wonder how nicely several pieces would fit into my existing wardrobe. The collection encompassed day and evening frocks as well as a few looks of some super sporty swimwear. I don't know how to swim, but I do like to lounge by the pool while I catch up on the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar.

After the show, I took a quick peek backstage where of all things, I happened upon a model eating a cookie. I took a snap of the runway line up and watched as VALVO graciously posed for photos and gave short interviews. I even got a close up look of some of the bead work, paillettes, and black leather. Oh yes, these pieces will do very nicely.

New York Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2014

Someone once asked me why I hit the streets to take pictures during Fashion Week. The answer is quite simple: I love Fashion. I love to see Fashion and I love to be around Fashion. Women and men who love Fashion will sometimes spend all year saving a special piece that will only be worn once for fear of being photographed in the same outfit twice. I think that's fantastic. What better time to showcase your most cherished pieces that you've collected through the year than during Fashion Week when all eyes are watching to see what next seasons signature color will be? I implore you to wear your impractically high heels and your sharply tailored dresses with your magnificent head piece. Why not? It puzzles me at the people who play coy. Make no mistake, no matter what these women say, they all want their picture taken. Including me. So, please stop pretending its not what you want. We all know you do!

On Day 2 of New York Fashion Week I was hanging out around Milk Studios when I took these photos. Shooting street style photographs is not as easy as it looks, especially in 5 inch heels, but I managed a few shots. I snapped Linda Fargo of Bergdorf GoodmanModa Operandi's Lauren Santo Domingo, and two super stylish girls. My favorite photo of the day is of Phil Oh of Street Peeper and the esteemed street style photographer, Tommy Ton of Jak & Jil. They were having a smoke break when they graciously posed for me. These are certainly two cool guys.
