Catherine Malandrino Spring / Summer 2014

CATHERINE MALANDRINO opted to present her Spring Summer 2014 as a viewing in lieu of a traditional runway show this year. The collection, entitled Les Voiles De Saint Tropez, was a nod to yacht season when the harbor fills with traditional and synthetic fabrics alike. If you were planning to head to the South of France next summer, MALANDRINO has already provided you with the perfect wardrobe.
For one hour, you were able to view an assortment of maxi skirts, perforated leather, and some very cool high waisted cotton pants. Upon closer inspection of some of the prints revealed themselves to be air planes and sail boats. How fitting. When I read the viewing was to take place at an address along the West Side Highway, I initially thought that it would be an odd location to host a Fashion show. That is until on Day 6 of New York Fashion Week I arrived at Pier 92 to learn that this is where the cruise ships dock to collect passengers and no doubt head off to some exotic locale. With the large vessels in the background, it was quite clear as to why Malandrino chose this spot. I myself was very tempted to take several outfits right off the models and set sail.

Malandrino herself was dressed in all black Parisian chic uniform with a red ankle boot. Amongst the Fashionable crowd, I managed to grab a few words with the designer. I asked which look was her favorite. She picked two; the waxy white leather peplum waist jacket with pleated loose cotton pants in ocean blue and the knotted cascade front blue and white striped maxi dress. Looks number 21 and 22.

Bon Voyage!
